Context
With the rise of Quick Commerce, Rebel Foods launched QuickES — a service delivering curated meals in under 15 minutes, within a 1.5 km radius.
But the kitchen systems weren’t built for that speed. The existing Kitchen Display System (KDS) was slowing things down — showing entire orders in grouped views, creating cognitive load, missed items, and inefficiencies in high-volume prep environments.
Challenge
Order prioritization was manual and error-prone
Order cards grouped multiple items, increasing prep confusion
The system was scroll-heavy and cluttered under load
The UI didn’t adapt well to global kitchen setups (India, UAE, UK)
Investigation
Alongside the research team, I conducted a generative study to understand users’ goals, needs, and pain points while navigating the current KDS for prioritizing Quick Commerce orders. I also conducted a global competitive analysis, examining how quick-service restaurants, dark kitchens, and food tech companies design task flows for high-speed preparation.
